My Christmas diary: 2025 edition

Image
As this great year comes to a close, I will narrate how I spent the Christmas holidays. Whether it was the people I met or the food I ate, this season sure was fun! To start with the festivities, there were Christmas carols, which were a lot of fun with food, songs, chatting, etc. Next, at my school, I watched a movie called “Golden Winter” (go watch it, it’s good), and then we had an assembly. Those two events were fun. Then we went shopping at Target, Costco, Marshalls, etc., to buy gifts for our friends and parents. After that, we went to a Christmas Eve service at Timberlake. It had preaching, songs, and hot chocolate. Finally, to finish it off, we went to Snoqualmie Falls. It was very scenic and a nice sight to see. These were some places I went to during the Christmas season. The most fun was when we went to dinner at our friends’ houses. On the big day, Christmas, we went to my friend Grace’s home for dinner. We played games, talked, and ate tasty food. Also, we went to...

The Plymouth Rock: Fact and Myths

Image
The Pilgrims’ landing on Plymouth Rock is a significant event in American history. However, some parts of the event are myths. This passage will explain the history of the event, along with the myth. All the Pilgrims wanted was a free place to practice their religion. The Pilgrims were members of the Church of England. Many people, however, believed the Church of England was corrupt and went to Holland. They were free to practice their religion there, but they felt Holland was too crowded. So, on September 6, 1620, they boarded a ship called the Mayflower. The Pilgrims explored places until they found the place just right for them—Plymouth Harbor. Some Pilgrims, however, got sick and even died due to a lack of vitamin C, the bad winter, and seasickness. Since the Wampanoags were the only people in the land, the Pilgrims had to depend on them. The two tribes signed a treaty to become allies. The Pilgrims could depend on the Wampanoags because a Wampanoag man named Squanto taught t...

Summer or Winter Vacation: What is the best?

Image
Summer and winter holidays are both very fun, but only one can be the best. I would like to present my views on which vacation is better: summer or winter. Firstly, winter holidays are good because people can spend time with their loved ones. Because people are not so wrapped up in other things, it creates space to stay close to family. Another reason winters are good is that when it snows, there are fun activities such as making snowmen and snow angels. However, a bad part about winter is that it has short days and less sunshine to go out and play, so most activities are indoors. Summer holidays, however, are longer than winter holidays, and therefore there are a lot more fun activity options. Another reason summers are good is that they are filled with tropical and tasty foods. However, a downside to summer vacations is that since kids graduate from one class to another, they might miss their school friends and teachers. Another downside to summer is that it can cause skin rashes f...

The day my lunch started talking.

Image
25 November 2025 Our school is a really wacky place. But one of the weirdest things that ever happened was when my lunch started talking—magically! In this story, I will fill you in on exactly what happened when my lunch began talking. It all started during lunch period (well, obviously). I pulled out my favourite and most recent lunchbox, which is purple. It’s basically a souvenir to me nowadays. Somehow, when I took my very first bite of the mac and cheese my mom made, the lunchbox suddenly grew eyes, a nose, and a mouth. I was like, “How did this happen?” But it had happened—no question, no doubt. Then my lunchbox started talking. Lunchbox: Hi, fellow kid! Shalom: How can you even talk? Lunchbox: I happen to have no idea myself. But at least we can be friends! Shalom: Okay, we can. So, what do you want to do first? Lunchbox: Talk about your favourite food and why. Shalom: Okay, sure. My favourite is this mac and cheese. The reason why is because it is creamy and tasty. Lunchbo...

Books or Movies: Which is better?

Image
Have you watched a movie based on a book as well as read the book? If so, have you asked someone, Is the book better or the movie?" In this passage, I will present my views on whether watching a film based on a book is better than reading the book itself. First, reading the book can help improve children's reading skills and vocabulary because books can be descriptive and use words that some people don't know about. Next, the book can help with creative imagination. However, books tend to take longer to read and understand, depending on children's reading skills and interest in the story. A child's interest in reading a book depends on the author's style of writing. For instance, I  found reading The Wild Robot easier than reading The Hobbit because it had not very many difficult words as well as clear and short. This is why books are an advantage and a disadvantage. The movie, however, has audio and visuals to keep the viewers engaged in the story. Movies in...

Class Pet

Image
Taking care of a class pet at school can be fun and a disadvantage at the same time. In this passage,  I will explain the advantages and disadvantages of having a class pet and unravel my personal opinion at the end.  The first reasoTaking care of a class pet at school can fun and disadvantageous at the same time. In this passage, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of having a class pet and unravel my personal opinion at the end.  The first reason having a class pet is an advantage is that students will be responsible enough to ensure the safety of the class pets from other students. Next, students will be motivated to learn how to take care of the class pet by reading books about the class pet, and this helps them learn and become smarter. Finally, students will be responsible for feeding the class pet. These are the important life skills the students can learn.  The negative sides of the argument also present valid reasons. For the first instance, mone...

How does it work - Maglev Train & Scrap Yards

Image
Have you ever been on a maglev train or worked in a scrapyard and wondered "How do these things work?" I will write about how maglev and scrap magnets get into action. The maglev trains and scrap magnets work by using electromagnets . The maglev train has U-shaped undercarriage which gets attracted by the track due to magnetism, so the train moves along the rails. There are guidance magnets in the train which include magnetic repulsion; they help direct the train to either left or right, or stop the train from crossing the tracks and falling down. The driver is not the only one driving the train! In fact , there are levitation magnets which have computers controlling them in order to slow down the train, keep it on the track, and move the train. In a scrapyard, there will be a crane with the magnet which picks up car scraps. It also has an iron disc which is armored with an electric coil to pick up the scraps. It has a switch to turn on so the magnet works just like ...

How does it work - Teeth

Image
Teeth is the starting point of the our food's journey to our stomach. In this passage, I will write about different types of teeth, carnivore teeth and herbivore teeth. The molars are the edge of the cheek. They have ridges or cusps so they can grind and crunch food (for example a cookie). The premolars are next, as the brother of the molar as I like to call it, basically works as a grinder and grinds the food into a paste. The canines are like a gripping tool, so they help grip the food and tear it into smaller pieces. Finally, the incisors are chisel shaped teeth which are at the front of the mouth and they help cut food into small pieces like the scissors that help to cut and that is why it sounds like the scissors - incisors.  Carnivores have very sharp teeth. Their canines are just like swords it can easily slice the prey up and eat it. The molars are like blades which are strong enough to slice a prey's skin and can crunch the bones. Herbivores are almost the opposite,...

How does it work - Digestive System

Image
The digestive system is an integral part of the human body. In this passage, I will write about how the digestive system works.  Let's say a hamburger is consumed. The burger is chewed by the teeth in a person's mouth and broken down into a paste. The saliva moisturises the paste, and then the food enters the oesophagus. The oesophagus is what connects the mouth and the stomach. The muscles in the oesophagus wall contract and relax to push the hamburger paste down to the stomach.  When the food reaches the stomach, the food paste mixes with the stomach acid. The digestive enzymes break down the food particles. From the stomach, the food reaches the small intestine. The small intestine is a 7 foot and 23 inches tube coiled up , and it provides nutrients to the blood. The enzymes in the small intestine digest the protein, carbs and fat.  Finally, the food passes to the large intestine. The bacteria feed on the remaining nutrients, releasing more nutrients to the bloo...

Birthday 2025

Image
Dear grandpa, My 9th birthday is coming up very soon, so in this letter that I am writing to you, I am going to tell you what I wish to do on my 9th birthday. (from morning to evening). When I wake up in the morning, the first thing  I will do is shout "It's my birthday!" Then I will go brush my teeth like I usually do. Then I will so some chitchatting with my parents for 5-10 mins, and then I wish to head to IHOP (a pancake place) to have breakfast.  After having breakfast, we will go home and I will read a book. In the afternoon, after having lunch which might be paneer and pulav that I'm hoping my Mother will make for me, I wish for my parents to take me to the mall so  I can get a hoverboard, a keychain, a soccer ball, and a LEGO set. After doing those, we will head home so my parents can rest for a while, while they do so I can do some drawing. In the evening we will head to the Living waters church to have some fun, worship, and have a big feast! I am looking...

Latitude & Longitude

Hey guys, Disclaimer: Sorry about the delay. I guess it’s because I’ve had a ton of homework and tests, especially the SBA. Also, The Dazzling Moon: Episode 2 won’t be coming due to even more delays—it may never come. 😔 So thankfully, I hope you enjoy the story I made to replace The Dazzling Moon. Let’s do this! Tom was very excited because today he got to go to Houston with his family (his mom, his dad, and his sister Melissa) for five whole days! He was so excited that he jumped with joy. (This is the first dialogue in the story.) Tom’s Mom: Whoa, whoa, whoa—dinosaur! We live in an apartment, so if the neighbors hear you, they’ll get disturbed (and complain). Tom’s Dad: What Evie means is, be chill, okay? Tom (thankfully): Okay. 😊 😊 😊 One hour later, Tom and his family arrived at the airport (a.k.a. the plane’s dwelling place). Melissa: Remember what Mom and Dad said about being chill. She whispered it into Tom’s ear. Tom and his family boarded Magnifi...

Dolphins

Dolphins are very intriguing creatures. In this passage, I am going to explore some fascinating facts about dolphins. The first remarkable fact about dolphins is that they are really smart. A dolphin's trainer might use hand signals to represent objects. For example, the trainer would throw a ball into the water and signal, "Is there a ball?" The dolphin would respond with a "yes." Then, the trainer might point to a broken vase and signal, "Is the vase broken?" The dolphin would answer "no." Dolphins are intelligent enough to remember the hand sign for an unbroken vase and respond correctly. The another remarkable fact about dolphins is that they can communicate with each other, just like humans. But instead of using English, they rely on motions and sounds to communicate. For example, if one dolphin puts its flipper on another dolphin's back, it means they are friends. If two dolphins jump at the same time, it shows that they are bon...

Technology in classrooms

Dear Readers (Elementary School), Computers have a significant role in class, like practicing math and English, researching science, serving as a teaching aid for teachers, and showing art videos. Now, you may have a question: Should there be more technology in the classroom or not? Read on to find out why, why not, and my opinion. Having more technology in the classroom can be beneficial. One reason is that if students want to become computer engineers, they can learn in advance how to operate computers and understand the do's and don'ts. Another reason why there should be more technology in the classroom is that you can get more information than you can from books. Following that, another reason there should be more technology in the classroom is that it has interactive games that not only help people learn but also make learning fun! Learn, have fun! It’s a win-win! My last and final claim for why there should be more tech in the classroom is that it can help teachers give...

Pencil Erasers: Benefit or Downgrade?

Pencil Eraser: Benefit or Downgrade? Dear Readers (Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd-grade kids), When you go to a stationery shop, you have the option to choose a pencil with an eraser at the back or one without an eraser. If you choose the one with an eraser, you might wonder: Is the pencil eraser beneficial or not? Be careful—sometimes the eraser might pop out, and the pencil will start functioning like a regular one. If that happens, you won't be able to fix it back. A pencil eraser can be useful when you forget to bring a separate eraser. Instead of searching through your pencil box, you can simply use the one attached to your pencil. Another advantage is that it allows you to erase small mistakes in a word without accidentally erasing other parts. Lastly, a pencil eraser takes up less space than a regular eraser, which helps you see what you need to rewrite. However, it also has some downsides. While it can erase, it doesn’t always do so effectively. It often leaves behind dust and...

Thermometer

The first thermometer was invented by Galileo Galilei. It was first called a thermoscope. It was later improved by Daniel Fahrenheit, who discovered that using mercury works better than water. The thermometer is important because it is used to measure temperature. Measuring temperature is important because it can tell you how hot or cold something is or has to be. For example, if you leave the stove on too hot, without measuring how hot it is going to be, your house could catch fire, or your food might burn. The mercury or the alcohol in the thermometer moves up or down according to the heat. If it moves up, the temperature is higher, and if it moves down, the temperature is lower. A thermometer can have different scales like Fahrenheit, Celsius, and Rankine. Kelvin and Rankine are actually only used by scientists, and the scales start at absolute zero (-460 degrees Fahrenheit). One type of thermometer is a mercury thermometer, also known as the ordinary thermometer. A thermomete...

Water Cycle

Water is essential to all living beings because it is used to hydrate plants, animals, and humans. Living beings find water in lakes, rivers, oceans, and man-made reservoirs. The forms of water are solid, liquid, and gas. Ice is a solid form, rain is a liquid form, and vapor is a gas form. Water becomes solid at 0 degrees Celsius and becomes vapor at 100 degrees Celsius. Snow helps control the Earth's temperature, water vapor forms clouds, and rain fills up reservoirs. Water on Earth's surface, such as in oceans or seas, gets heated by the sun and becomes vapor. This is called evaporation. When the vapor cools, it becomes water droplets through a process called condensation. It takes millions of water droplets to form raindrops. When the droplets become heavy, they fall as rain. However, when the droplets freeze due to the temperature inside the cloud, they fall as snow, hail, or sleet. This process is called precipitation. Changes in the climate can affect the water cycle. T...

A Christmas to Remember!

Image
You must have had a wonderful Christmas, but there’s one Christmas you haven’t heard about yet: mine! Let me take you through what I did in the days leading up to and on Christmas. On December 14th, my parents and I attended the Snowflake Lane Parade. It was magical! There were dancers, parade floats, and people dressed as teddy bears, mice, Santa, and more. One of the dancers even gave me a piece of candy! After the parade, we snapped pictures, went inside the mall, and enjoyed delicious pizza at ODD Pizza. Fast-forward to December 20th, when I participated in a Winter Waltz event with my class. After that, we transitioned to various fun activities in different classrooms. My rotation included hot cocoa, watching a movie (Wild Kratts—not my favourite!), a Rice Krispie Treat party, and two crafting sessions—one where we made owls and another featuring hot cocoa-themed crafts. There was even a station for games! Five kids from another class joined us, which made things even more l...

The Dazzling Moon - How It Looks

Image
Have you ever been curious about the moon? Read on to learn about how the moon looks. When you walk outside on a clear night, look up and admire the beauty of the moon. It lights up the sky with its glow.  While you might think, the moon emits its own light it actually doesn't - the moon simply reflects the light from the sun. On different nights, the moon takes on different shapes, these are the phases of the moon. When we see it fully reflecting the sun's light it's called the full moon. As the moon moves around the earth, it takes on different shapes such as the waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, waning crescent and the waning gibbous. Every 15 days,  the moon appears to disappear only to grows back in the next 15 days.   Humans have been on the moon and the first one to set foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong! Based on observations from astronauts, the moon has craters created by space rocks. Moon is a rocky desert with mountains and plains. Interestingly, t...

Life in a frozen world

Image
Have you ever thought about life in a frozen world like Antarctica? In this passage, we will explore life in this coldest, windiest, and driest place on Earth. The entire region is cold, yet many species thrive in this extreme environment. Unlike the species in Antarctica, humans have never adapted to live in this frozen wilderness. Green plants are typically the base of food chains, but there are no trees in Antarctica. Instead, giant algae grow under the water. These algae serve as food for krill, tiny shrimp-like creatures. Let’s learn about animal life in Antarctica. Krill play a crucial role in the food chain as a keystone species. They are the most abundant species due to their unique ability to shrink and survive without food for long periods. Fish, penguins, seals, and whales depend on krill as a food source. Icefish, also called "white-blooded fish," have blood as clear as water because they don’t produce red blood cells. This unique adaptation allows their blood t...
