The Dazzling Moon - How It Looks

Image
Have you ever been curious about the moon? Read on to learn about how the moon looks. When you walk outside on a clear night, look up and admire the beauty of the moon. It lights up the sky with its glow.  While you might think, the moon emits its own light it actually doesn't - the moon simply reflects the light from the sun. On different nights, the moon takes on different shapes, these are the phases of the moon. When we see it fully reflecting the sun's light it's called the full moon. As the moon moves around the earth, it takes on different shapes such as the waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, waning crescent and the waning gibbous. Every 15 days,  the moon appears to disappear only to grows back in the next 15 days.   Humans have been on the moon and the first one to set foot on the moon was Neil Armstrong! Based on observations from astronauts, the moon has craters created by space rocks. Moon is a rocky desert with mountains and plains. Interestingly, t...

Life in a frozen world

Image
Have you ever thought about life in a frozen world like Antarctica? In this passage, we will explore life in this coldest, windiest, and driest place on Earth. The entire region is cold, yet many species thrive in this extreme environment. Unlike the species in Antarctica, humans have never adapted to live in this frozen wilderness. Green plants are typically the base of food chains, but there are no trees in Antarctica. Instead, giant algae grow under the water. These algae serve as food for krill, tiny shrimp-like creatures. Let’s learn about animal life in Antarctica. Krill play a crucial role in the food chain as a keystone species. They are the most abundant species due to their unique ability to shrink and survive without food for long periods. Fish, penguins, seals, and whales depend on krill as a food source. Icefish, also called "white-blooded fish," have blood as clear as water because they don’t produce red blood cells. This unique adaptation allows their blood t...

Our journey to the Evergreen State - Seattle

Image
Dear Readers (3 to 5 grade explorers) As you know, I have written a lot of blogs in India. But I have recently relocated to Seattle. I'll tell you how I got here.  Me and my parents were packing, our church friends, Minu and Thiyagu came and helped us load our luggage into a cab and we said a little prayer. We then got into the cab and asked him to take us to Chennai airport.  My mom had a lot of "uncertainties" running through her mind, but that didn't stop me and me from playing rock paper scissors, then she got back to pondering about her "uncertainties". We reached the airport and we saw other families who had come to wish us bye. I discovered I had a sister but she was not born from my parents, she is my 3-year-old cousin, Sara. Patty gave me two bananas which I ate. We said bye to our other families and headed to the lounge.  On the way to the lounge, my mom found she had lost her purse. It had the credit cards in it which  MEANT WE COULDN'T GO I...

The peaceful void - Countryside!

Image
Dear Readers (Who live in the city), If you ever feel overwhelmed by the city's hustling, bustling noise, I suggest you take a break and retreat to the countryside where tranquility takes center stage. The fresh smell of air gives your nose a smell of freshness. The lush green grass lay in the fields glittering like emerald carpets, waiting to be eaten up by cows. You can spot and hear a variety of animals, such as cows mooing, birds chirping, sheep bleating, dogs barking, and more. There are also more things to explore in the peaceful void like crystal clear waters flowing, the sun's golden rays reflecting on the water, the breeze blowing throughout the country and the different types of trees marveling.  To honor and represent nature's beauty,  I drew 2 sceneries for my art competition, and my inspiration was from nature's beauty. So next time, you feel disturbed by the city's appearance, trust me escape the bustling prison and escape to the peaceful void. Remem...

The bird of green fashion - Parrot!

Image
Dear Readers Have you ever observed a parrot? If you have, what do you think is special about parrots? Well, I think a parrot is special because of its beautiful colors. They come in vibrant colors of red, yellow, turquoise, green, and more! It looks great to look at while they fly fast with wings fluttering. Next time I see these qualities of an animal, I'll know what to call it.  Now let's learn some facts about our feathered friends. The different  types of parrots are, macaw, cockatoo, and parakeet.  Parrots like to eat fruits, seeds, and mud. Now, you might be thinking that eating mud is weird, but for them, it's a source of salt. Parrots are trained by humans to copy them. Macaws have the strongest beaks to break even the toughest nut, but they can also peel fruit. So next time you see a parrot, appreciate it for its beauty and take inspiration. Shalom

Squirrels: The playful rodents

Image
Draft Dear Readers,  Now you must be thinking “What is so interesting about squirrels?”. You see them all over the place. Well, I see them when I am playing they are hopping about the trees or walls chasing each other, not to mention scurrying on the walls, or when I am going for a walk they are running on the gate. Now here are some fun facts about squirrels. Squirrels live on trees in cities and villages. Some breeds of squirrels are prairie dogs, flying squirrels, and chipmunks. Squirrels eat plants, seeds, nuts, and fruits. Squirrels are generally brown or grey rodents with cute eyes and a long large bushy tail. I like squirrels because I acted in my school cultural show as the character Chikki the squirrel. The main character in scene 4 of the screenplay is Bau Bau’s bark (chandi’s campaign). Chikki, he advocates cleanliness by recycling waste to keep the Kamala colony safe.  Warm regards Shalom
